According to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office’s incident report filed Friday and now released by CNN, the avengersand of the series Hawk eye, 52, used a snow blower to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow on his Reno, Nevada, property on a main road. Next, he started to slide sideways down a hill, then Renner got out.

However, the emergency brake was not activated and the snow plow, which runs on tracks, got in the way of the nephew. Renner tried to stop him and was pushed down and crushed.

“The Pistenbully snow groomer began to slide, forcing Renner to exit the vehicle without applying the emergency brake,” the sheriff’s report concluded. “Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical problems, it is believed, based on our mechanical inspection, that the parking brake would have prevented the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner tried to stop or steer the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), ha was dragged under the vehicle along the runway and ran over it.”

The report also revealed that the brake warning light inside the snowcat’s cabin was malfunctioning, noting that “mechanical problems may have been a factor in this accident.” He also said that the deterioration is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

According to the report, Renner, who broke “more than 30 bones” in the crash, was questioned in hospital on Jan. 5. He told investigators that after he towed the truck onto the road, the snowplow began “sliding sideways” and then “started rolling down the hill.” He jumped, but realized that he was “going straight at him (his he nephew)”, so he attempted to “stop or deflect the Pistenbully”.

To get into the cab, Renner had to step onto the moving track and was “immediately pulled under the track on the port side”. He was “completely crushed” under the vehicle and had “extreme difficulty breathing”. After the plow “passed him”, he “continued on the road”.

With his right chest “collapsed” and upper torso “squeezed,” he remained grounded and “focused on his breathing” as his nephew and others helped him until first responders arrived in the storm of snow.

It was reported on New Year’s Day that Renner was airlifted to the hospital following the crash. The snow plow was impounded by authorities to rule out any mechanical failures.

Renner underwent two surgeries. After more than two weeks he was released and continues to recover at home. Over the weekend, he shared an image of a physical therapy session.

“Morning exercises, resolutions, everything has changed this particular new year,” she wrote, “I want to thank EVERYONE for your messages and consideration for me and my family… Much love and appreciation to you all. These over 30 broken bones will be mended, strengthened, as love and bonding with family and friends deepens. Love and blessings to you all.”
