Fans of classical music have reason to rejoice: a new opera will see the light of day in Quebec, the Nouvel Opéra Métropolitain. Festival Classica announced the new lyrical division of its activities on Monday.
This new opera will begin its operations in 2023, and will focus more on the French repertoire of operas and operetta.
For its first seasons, the Nouvel Opéra Métropolitain will offer performances in a concert format. Festival Classica hopes to increase the number of performances over the seasons, and is committed to ensuring that his commands and his creations [soient] the reflection of Quebec’s cultural diversity.
The opera house of tomorrow must be contained in a historical continuum as well as in a cultural reality. It must be designed according to the living forces in the environment supports Marc Boucher, general and artistic director of the Festival, through a press release.
New bedroom
Festival Classica, based in Saint-Lambert, on Montreal’s South Shore, indicates it is working on building an acoustic room, primarily to host new opera and theatrical concerts.
In human dimensions and equipped with an orchestral pit, this space will allow for a proximity that will provide a unique lyrical experience to the audience.explained Marc Boucher
The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
