Diego “Uma” Rodríguez and Diego TuñónHistorical members of the Babasónicos band, highlighted this Tuesday May 16, at the Gardel Awards ceremony, “the strength” of the Argentine scene to continue “exporting” music and underlined that today what is labeled as “even trap or rap is somehow rockbecause it discusses current events differently”.
After being crowned with advanced trench AS “Best Alternative Rock Album”At the Gardel Awards press conference, the musicians referred to the healthy “competition” that abounds in the music industry.
“Currently there is a young culture, an ancient culture, a current culture that plays and exports music, which makes us very proud,” said Diego “Uma” Rodríguez.
The value of young people
“I think it’s great that young people stand out, because young people are the ones who invented punk, the one that made techno pop, that is, the one that has always revolutionized the streets. I love that there are so many,” added keyboardist Diego Tuñón.
When asked about the validity of the Babasónicos as an advanced and at the same time popular group, he explained that the only key is “loving music, trying to think all day about making it” and added: “Is there a pandemic?” music. It’s about working every day thinking about it and obsessing over it.”

Because trap and rap are rock
“We also believe that what they call trap or rap is also somehow rock, because It’s the way to discuss current affairs in a different way and to plant a flag what every generation wants to say,” he added.
Rodríguez, who became the guitarist to a musician playing various roles during the band’s live performances, celebrated the album’s recognition advanced trench, emphasizing that “being nominated is nice” and that “winning is also nice”, even for their family and friends.
