Titled “The Way of the Water”, the film hits theaters this December
Sam Worthington took the stage at Cinemacon 2022 and shared news about “Avatar 2: The Way of the Water”, a sequel directed by James Cameron which hits national cinemas in December this year. At the event, the protagonist spoke more about the trajectory of his character, Jake.
to Variety, worthington revealed what it was like to return to the Pandora universe 13 years after the first film, when he was in his 30s. “When the second one comes out, I’ll be approaching 50 [anos]. The first one I was in a wheelchair, you know. And when we get to the fourth and fifth, I might be in a wheelchair by the time we do that.”he explained. “It’s great to be part of such an amazing family and to have this longevity”he added.
About the film, the actor said that “Jim is a very loyal man and keeps the same people on board, but I’m a very small part of it. There’s a great creative team behind this and from what I’ve seen, it’s impressive and wonderful what they’re creating.”.
Finally, when asked what we can expect from “Avatar 2”, Sam answered: “It’s a Jim Cameron movie, man, what do you think?”
Among other news, it was also revealed that the film will have its first teaser shown in theaters before the sessions of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. The full trailer will be released online the following week.
At the event, Disney also revealed that it will re-release “Avatar” in September in theaters around the world with remastered image and sound. Furthermore, the producer Jon Landau promised that each sequel to “Avatar” will be independent of the next, always ending with an emotional conclusion, but that the films will connect to form a larger saga.
The sequel’s plot will feature the returns of Jake (worthington) and neytiri (Zoe Saldana) in the role of parents and living in a place totally unknown to them. This is because in the initial plot, the lives of the Sullys is interrupted when the RDA mining operation returns to Pandora, forcing Jake to take the family to “what is seen as a safe haven” on the reef.
In addition to the duo, the film also features the returns of Sigourney Weaver (“Alien” franchise) and Stephen Lang (“Mortal Engines”). In addition to them, you will have the star ticket Kate Winsletwho coincidentally will return to work with the director of “Titanic”. CCH Pounder (“The orphan”), Dileep Rao (“The Origin”) and Joel David Moore (“Terror in the Swamp”), complete the cast of the production.
Jack Champion also joins the cast as the adopted son of Jake, Javier Socorrobetter known as spider in the story, a human child who grew up on pandora. Nonetheless, neytiri he can only see the boy as one of those who destroyed his home and killed his father.
“Avatar 2: The Way of the Water” should be released in 3D – no glasses needed -, 4K and with an option of 48fps, a frame rate per second that is twice that of traditional cinema. The film officially hits theaters nationwide on December 15th.
