Born on February 5, 1990, in Capetown, South Africa, Charli Dean was best known for her roles in the D.C. superhero series Black Lightning and the Palme d’Or-winning film Triangle of Sadness. She died on August 29, 2022, at the age of 32. The up-and-coming South African movie actress made her film debut twelve years later in 2010’s Spud, then Spud 2, a comedy featuring musician Troye Sivan as a first-year student attending an affluent private school in South Africa
In the film, she appeared on CBS’ Elementary and C.W.’s Black Lightning, playing Syonide, an independent superhero. In the final film, she appeared in Triangle of Sadness, directed by Ruben Ostlund, collecting to assist victims of the luxury cruise ship crash with satire.
