Ioane “John” King, 49
Ioane John King, who began as an extra for Starz’s Spartacus program before being promoted to a recurring favorite gladiator Rhaskos, died August 15 from cancer. He was 49. In January, the actor was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma cancer, which had spread throughout his pancreas and other internal organs. With Spartacus, which had operated for three seasons between 2010 and 2013, John King reprised his part in this 2011 Spartacus Gods of Battle miniseries. His former costar Manu Bennett described him as “a powerful presence with an ever positive attitude.” Bennett remembered him fondly as a joyful, grinning presence.
