COVID-19 has reaped two new victims in the past 24 hours in Ottawa, while in Outaouais, there was a slight increase in those hospitalized on Friday.
Since the pandemic began, 803 people have succumbed to the coronavirus in the federal capital.
According to the latest report from Ottawa Public Health (OPS), ten patients have been hospitalized for the virus, one more person than the day before. On Friday, however, no patients were treated in intensive care.
Besides this, OPS
counts 70 additional infections in the population on Friday, and reports 676 active cases. It should be noted that this number may be underestimated due to changes in screening strategy.Since the pandemic began, 73,028 Ottawans have contracted the coronavirus, according to authorities.
In eastern Ontario, the number of COVID-19-related surgeries remained the same as the previous day with a balance of six patients admitted, but two people were in intensive care, one more on Thursday.
The number of coronavirus deaths in the region remains stable, according to data from the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU). Since the pandemic began, 228 people have died from the disease in the region.
Rise in Outaouais hospitals
According to data from the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ), 63 people are in hospital due to COVID-19 in Outaouais. That’s three more than the day before. Only one person is in intensive care.
There are also 17 new infections. This is the smallest increase recorded in a week. However, this data is likely to be underestimated due to changes in screening policy.
No new deaths were recorded on Friday.
Since the pandemic began, 39,563 Outaouais residents have contracted COVID-19 and 314 have died, according to public health.
Across the province, 612 were infected and 12 killed were counted on Friday. So far, 1,493 Quebecers have been hospitalized.
