Mandatory mask wear has been extended until April 30 in Quebec

Quebecers must continue to wear masks in indoor public places and public transportation at least until April 30, Quebec’s acting national director of public health, Dr. Luc Boileau.

The resurgence of cases and hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in recent weeks in Quebec is forcing public health to react in an attempt to stop the spread of the disease.

Since most of the measures have been removed, we have chosen to have a more careful approach and responsibility to act this way.

A quote from Dr. Luc Boileau, Acting National Director of Public Health for Quebec

We are convinced that this is a good thing because the virus continues to spread abundantlyadded Dr. Boileau.

Yesterday, Quebec Premier François Legault, who is recovering from the disease, prepared the ground by raising the possibility that his government will extend for several weeks the wearing of forced masks in indoor public places and public transport. the population against the sixth wave of COVID-19.

This morning, public health reported 31 additional deaths and 1,479 people were hospitalized in Quebec because of COVID-19, 72 more than the previous day.

An infected person is contagious within 10 days

Beyond wearing a mask, which remains the last mandatory step to combat the spread of the virus, Drs. Boileau to remind the Quebeckers of a point according to him. It’s so important or that infected people can transmit the disease within 10 days.

Whether with BA.2 or Omicron infection, the period during which you can be infected is 10 days. When you start to have symptoms, we repeat it, you need to quickly isolate yourself, take tests if you have access to them. […]but remain isolated for five days at home, being careful.

Over the next five days, a sick person without a fever can resume certain activities but should stay away from gatherings and places where they can transmit pain. This is not the time to go to restaurants, for shows, to play sports with others, nor is it the time to receive people …recollection of Dr. Boileau.

More details are next.
