A family from Rouyn-Noranda decided to travel for a whole year. After much thought and procrastination as well, the Petit family, with 4 children between 8 and 16, will finally be leaving the region this Sunday to tour the world.
Marie-Hélène Basque came up with the idea for this trip about 5 years ago. The mother of the family explained that she was inspired by other people, telling herself that she could too.
There are really many whys, that’s often the big question, but there are many whys and it changes because it’s been a good 5-6 years and always more reasons why, For me, it comes out of my comfort zone. .explanation by Marie-Hélène Basque
I think it’s to put a damper on daily life, metro-work-sleep, to open children’s minds to everything else in the world. Every chance they have here to live where you live with the amenities you have. Just live an adventure, relax with the familyexplanation of his wife Jacquelin Petit.
A long trip plan
It took almost 5 years to arrange the trip, but also to raise enough money to be stuck for 1 year with 4 kids.
If we told ourselves that we would travel around the world in 6 months, certainly with our budget and family, it was impossible, but we gave ourselves a reasonable deadline, we were careful, we put some aside money and that’s itexplained Jacquelin Petit.
The trip was supposed to take place last summer, but at COVID it didn’t really make sense for them to start traveling with all the hurdles in different countries.
Leave for Africa to swim with sharks
They will begin their journey to Namibia in Africa.
We want to touch all the continents and Africa is mainly for animals, I think kids when we talk to them about travel, that’s what always comes out with animals.explained Marie-Hélène.
The family then moves to South Africa to fulfill one of Jacquelin Petit’s dreams, swimming in a cage with white sharks.
This is one of the places in the world where it is possible to do so. I will be spending a week with an organization that studies marine biologyJacquelin added.
They then target Asia, Europe, Oceania and South Africa, but their itinerary is still flexible.
Far school
Parents got the list of school materials their children will have next year to see the material that should be seen throughout the year.
They say they have had great cooperation from various school administrators and they are sure everything will be fine.
