A former nurse who went to the home of Quebec singer Bernard Lachance to provide solute to him the night before his death has pleaded guilty to five counts of illegal use of the profession. Marie-Soleil Perron, whose training license expired at the time of the events, was fined $ 12,500, or $ 2,500 per count.
A summary of the case published by the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ) states that Ms. Perron, whose training license has expired, allegedly act in a way that leads to the belief that she is licensed to practice nursing sa agreeing to go to the deceased’s home, installing an intravenous catheter in the latter’s arm; and providing a solution.
Bernard Lachance died a day after surgery, on May 11, 2021, due to AIDS -related complications.
The Quebec singer, known in his time on Oprah in 2009, recently recycled himself into a star of the conspiracy movement. For several years he was convinced that the link between HIV and AIDS were invented by the pharmaceutical industry to reap revenue. So he stopped taking his triple therapy – a drug that prolongs the lives of people with HIV – and persuaded others to follow.
An investigation in Radio-Canada, published in June 2021, revealed that Mr. Lachance became an avid follower of the teachings of Guylaine Lanctôt, a fallen doctor who helped popularize the conspiracy that wanted AIDS to be a scam and said it was possible to cure the disease by meditation.
According to the singer’s family, Ms. Lanctôt put Bernard Lachance in contact with Ms. Perron: The call history of Bernard Lachance, consulted by Radio-Canada, shows that on the night before his death, Ms. Lachance spent 24 minutes on the phone with Guylaine Lanctôt, before calling Ms. Perron.
Bernard Lachance’s ex -wife confirms that Ms. Perron went to Bernard Lachance’s house to put an intravenous solution for him. He was found dead the next morning, a few hours later.
Important clarification: this solute did not cause the death of Bernard Lachance. In his report, coroner Pierre Belisle said the death was natural, caused by bacterial sepsis associated with HIV infection.
But the singer’s relatives regret that her entourage – in particular, Guylaine Lanctôt and her followers – did not encourage Bernard to seek more serious hospital care. A Radio-Canada survey published a few months ago revealed that Ms. Lanctôt his followers to shun doctors and hospitals.
For the family, the punishment received by Ms. Perron represents a further step toward justice. We are quite happy with thattold us Lise Lachance, sister of the deceased. Fortunately, he decided to accept responsibility by pleading guilty.
However, he said he has empathy for Ms. Perron: She was, in our opinion, another victim of Guylaine Lanctôthe says. Other than that, for him, it doesn’t affect his health, it affects his professional life.
The family of Bernard Lachance’s Guylaine Lanctôt, whose license to practice medicine was permanently revoked in 1997, now hopes that sanctions for illegal practice will also be imposed.
The College of Physicians cannot confirm or deny the existence of an investigation targeting Guylaine Lanctôt.
By phone, Marie-Soleil Perron did not want to give us an interview.
