The perpetrator of the attacks in Old Quebec on October 31, 2020, Carl Girouard, is appealing his conviction for first degree murder.
The application for legal challenge was filed Friday morning at the Quebec courthouse by his attorney, Me Pierre Gagnon.
The latter asks two directives addressed to the jurors, including about the use they may or may not make in the interrogation of his police client.
Sentencing
The filing of the appeal request occurs on the same day as Carl Girouard’s sentence submissions.
On May 20, the 26-year-old was convicted of the murders of Francois Duchesne, 56, and Suzanne Clermont, 61.
He was also found guilty of five attempted murder after attacking bystanders on the night of October 31, 2020.
The notion of criminal responsibility was at the heart of his trial.
More details to come.
