Merentiel, one step away from Boca: the Uruguayan who embittered River on the pitch and the Gallardos at a barbecue

Michael Merentiel already a new player Mouth. Or to be more precise, a couple of details are enough for him to become a Xeneize footballer: undergo a medical check-up and go to Brandsen 805 to sign his contract with the La Ribera club. The 26-year-old striker, ex Defense and Justicecomes from palmeiras on loan for one year and with an option to buy for 3 million dollars, and in this way he will be the second reinforcement for Negro Ibarra’s team after the arrival of the Paraguayan Bruno Valdez.

Merentiel, a Uruguayan with good footing, lots of dynamics and offensive fire, will be an interesting variation for ibarrawith which he was forced to debut in the championship Nicholas Orsini of 9 and a bit limited in the spare parts: blessedinterrupted; vazquezinjured and the young “Torito” Morales without settling on First yet.

Formed in the lower divisions of PenarolMerentiel made his pro debut in The Sisley Reservoir from the neighboring country and quickly attracted the attention of European scouts for his goals and finishes. The aurinegro gave it to the lorca of Spain and then to the subsidiary of Valencia, until “The Beast” (such is his nickname) accepted the challenge to play in Argentine football. Was Godoy Cruz the one who repatriated him to South America (he teamed up in attack with his compatriot, the unforgettable Morro García), and then lived his moment of maximum explosion with the shirt of Defense and Justice.

At Halcón de Varela he played 73 games, scored 25 goals and provided 8 assists. In addition, he has won two trophies: the South American Cup 2020 and the South American Recopa 2021. His good performances in the team led by Sebastián Beccacece have put him under the microscope of several powerful teams, including Riverwith Marcellus Gallardo interested in taking it to Núñez. But with the Doll he would have lived a separate story.

Finally the palmeiras who suffered it in the Cup Winners’ Cup (Merentiel scored on penalties that defined the final against Verdao) took out his wallet and in the midst of May 2022 He brought him to San Pablo to be part of a team full of figures and in which it was very difficult for him to stand out.

Merentiel played little in Brazil and only scored two goals for his new team, which is why the deal with Boca was resolved quickly and without too many complications. For the Uruguayan it is an opportunity to demonstrate that he can play for a great player from the continent. For Ibarra’s team, a footballer who can become a very useful reinforcement for what is to come, the league, the Argentine Cup, national cups and the proximity of the Libertadores, starting in April.

The history with the Gallardo

Merentiel shared a team with Nahuel Gallardo, son of Marcelo, who played in Defense and Justice. The good relationship between the two meant that the Uruguayan was invited to a dollhouse barbecue when the DT wanted to take him to River.

At the Monumental, Merentiel scored one of his most memorable goals in Argentine football. Not for the quality of him but for his scoring cry after beating Franco Armani, with a subtle touch from the left. “I’m a beast!” shouted Miguelito, facing the camera.

But back to the Gallardo house barbecue, Merentiel returned to celebrate as a guest. She so she told it in an interview with TyC Sports.

“I got along very well with the Gallardo family thanks to Nahuel and I got to share a barbecue with them. They tell many anecdotes,” he recalled slyly. And then he added laughing: “The only thing I did at home was take a bath because I got muddy after winning a game of tennis or football for Marcelo’s children. We ate the Gallardos and then I used the bathroom for them, ah”.

Two days after 2/2, closing of the market in Argentina, Boca closes its second reinforcement and continues to wait for what Huracán defines with the situation of Lucas Merolla. He is the central defender who wants the football junta and if he doesn’t arrive now he will do it in the middle of the year, when he is free at the Globe.

The Congress of Peru does not agree and postpones the debate on the progress of the elections for the third time

The Peruvian Congress postponed Tuesday for the third time the debate and vote on a bill to bring forward the general elections to October this year, a proposal that includes presidential and legislative elections.

The session, already suspended on Monday, was rescheduled for this Wednesday, amid vigorous debates and cross-overs between different political forces, in a divided Parliament and largely at odds with President Dina Boluarte.

“In order to find consensus among the national representations and at the request of the president of the Constitutions Commission, the plenary session convened to approve the early elections is rescheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday at 11:00,” wrote the official Twitter account. Congress President José Williams.

The debate and vote on this legislative initiative, considered crucial In the context of the anti-government protests in the country, they were initially scheduled for this Monday afternoon, but were later postponed to Tuesday morning, then to the same day in the afternoon and finally to Wednesday.

The decision of the head of Parliament, at the request of the Constitutional Commission chaired by Fujimorista Hernando Guerra García, became known when 20 minutes had passed after 16:00 local time, when the parliamentary session was scheduled to start.

tense negotiations

Hours earlier, Guerra García had met together with deputies Lady Camones and Alejandro Cavero, from the right-wing parties Alianza para el Progreso and Avanza País, with the Peruvian Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in the center of File.

“We are still in negotiations and we are also waiting for one more member who is the Executive and from there I hope we can reach a good agreement”, said the legislator on the bill which proposes to address one of the main demands of the anti-government protests in which 65 people died.

The legislative proposal on electoral advance for October 2023 was rejected last Friday by the plenary session of Parliament, but this Monday the Legislature approved the review of the vote.

After the approval of the review, Guerra García requested a break room to meet separately with each of the political parties to present a text that can generate greater consensus.

Rejection

So far, among the groups that have expressed the greatest rejection of the proposal are the ultraconservative Renovación Popular and the centrist Acción Popular, as well as Peru Libre, the self-proclaimed Marxist party that brought former president Pedro Castillo to power in 2021. sacked on 7 December after a failed self-coup attempt.

Boluarte, who was vice president, immediately assumed command and assured that he would govern until the end of Castillo’s mandate, in July 2026. But, under pressure from the protests and from Congress, he agreed to anticipate them.

Parliament then approved the holding of presidential elections in April 2024. Ma the crisis does not stop and protesters are demanding that elections be held this year.

The project that is presented must be discussed by the parliamentary plenary session e its eventual approval requires the support of 87 of the 130 members of Congress that make up the Peruvian hemicycle.

If approved, the opinion will have to be voted on again in the next legislature, since it is a constitutional reform.

President Dina Boluarte announced on Sunday that if Congress does not approve a snap general election, it will immediately send two bills for the election to be held this year anyway and for total reform of the 1993 constitution within the next legislature.

What you need to know about the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Pope’s first stop in Africa

What you need to know about the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Pope’s first stop in Africa

With immense mineral wealth and fertile lands, a large and young population and a territory the size of Western Europe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo should be Africa’s economic engine and a world power.

But the country, sometimes referred to as Africa’s “sleeping giant,” has been held back by a bloody legacy of colonialismendless wars, decades of mismanagement of public funds and a chronic lack of infrastructure.

Pope Francis had planned to travel to eastern Congo, but the intensification of the incessant fighting between militias – which cost millions of lives during the conflict – forced him to limit himself to the capital, Kinshasa, located in the west of the country.

According to numerous historians, the country was destined to fail due to the responsibility of the colonizing power, Belgium, which for decades ruled the Congo with an iron fist, extracting its immense natural wealth.

Belgium abruptly withdrew after independence in 1960, denying the Republic of the Congo the transitional period its leaders demanded.

Shortly before his assassination in 1961, Patrice Lumumba, independence leader and prime minister of the Congo, wrote in his last letter to his wife: “I want my children, whom I leave behind and who I may never see again, to know that Congo’s future is beautiful.”

More than half a century later, Congo is still trying to turn its vision into reality.

Jungle, oil and gas

The country has a vast tropical forest which is considered one of the lungs of the world.

Most of the Congolese rainforest, more than 2 million square kilometers of biodiverse tropical forests and carbon-rich peatlands, is located in the Congo. The rest spread to neighboring countries.

Second only to the Amazon, the Congo rainforest removes large amounts of carbon from the atmosphere: one study calculates its value at 55,000 million dollars a year.

Rainforest and bogs face multiple threats: loggers, coal producers and, most recently, the Congolese government, which announced last year that it would auction off oil blocks that overlap protected areas.

Congo recently awarded three North American companies the rights to exploit gas blocks under Lake Kivu.

While some areas are rapidly disappearing, there are still vast tracts of pristine rainforest.

precious minerals

Congo is rich in rare and precious minerals.

With gold, copper, diamonds, coltan and, according to calculations, two-thirds of the planet’s cobalt – a key element in electric car batteries – experts believe the Congo is one of the richest countries in the world in minerals.

And the competition for them is fierce. As the world begins the transition away from fossil fuels, cobalt has become extremely valuable. China and the United States have launched a race to gain control of world supply.

According to the US Treasury Department, almost all of Congo’s gold ends up in the hands of regional powers such as Rwanda and Uganda: it is smuggled, refined and exported to international markets, especially the United Arab Emirates. Rwanda and Uganda have denied the allegations.

The rush to extract Congo’s wealth has led to the exploitation of miners, violence against local communities and proxy wars, especially in the east of the country.

The eastern population is facing an escalation of violence and instability.

The conflict has gripped the East for decades, where more than one hundred armed groups identified by a series of acronyms – ADF, FDLR, LNR and CODECO – have killed, raped and they have displaced 5.5 million people, according to the United Nations.

Refugees from Congo have been fleeing for years to other African countries and to Europe, Canada and the United States.

But recently, a militant group called M23 has fueled and perpetrated a new wave of violence massacres and causing the flight of hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom travel to the lakeside city of Goma.

There, tiny tents made of tarpaulin and duct tape now blanket the landscape, providing dreary shelter for their occupants, who are often young children and traumatized mothers.

Congo assures that Rwanda supports the M23, and the Congolese president, Félix Tshisekedi, has accused the country of “expansionist tendencies”.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame – long a Western protégé whose country is a major recipient of US aid – denies backing the militia. But UN experts have published credible evidence that Rwanda exercises “overall command and strategic planning” of the M23, arming it and assisting in its recruitment.

Hostilities, which trace their roots to the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, have escalated in recent weeks when Rwanda fired on a Congolese military plane it said was invading its airspace.

The power of the Catholic Church

The Congolese Catholic Church is politically powerful.

The Catholic Church of Congo, the largest in Africa, exerts a strong influence on the country’s democracy.

Since the 1990s, the Church has played a decisive role in holding the country’s leaders to account.

After Sunday Mass, congregations across the country sometimes march directly from church to rallies, making it more difficult for authorities to ban or suppress protests.

Over the years, protesters have taken to the streets for the unconstitutional attempt by the president to run for a third term and they called for new elections and an end to the war in the east.

At the time of the elections, the Church sends observers to polling stations throughout the country – 40,000 in the last elections – to verify the correct conduct of the elections and denounce any attempt to disturb the progress or alter the results.

The last time Congo went to the polls to elect a new president, in December 2018, the Catholic Church announced there was a clear winner.

Although he refrained from saying who it was, pundits agreed that it was Martin Fayulu, the main opposition candidate. But Fayulu was unable to take office, nor was the ruling party’s candidate, handpicked by then-President Joseph Kabila. In his place, another opposition figure, Tshisekedi, took power, supported by Kabila.

New elections will be held in December. Tshisekedi and Fayulu are expected to compete again.

They left her dead for hours, but just as they were about to go to the funeral home they had a surprise: she was alive.

0
They left her dead for hours, but just as they were about to go to the funeral home they had a surprise: she was alive.

On Monday in Almuñécar, Spain, a situation as dramatic as it was particular took place: They left a woman for dead and just before delivering her body to the funeral home they realized she was alive.

The doctors who arrived at the house confirmed what was reported: the woman had no pulse and did not respond to any type of stimulus.

As a result, the lady was presumed dead and the protocol to proceed in such cases was activated.

What followed was to lift the corpse and investigate the causes of death. While the judicial protocols were activated, the family called a funeral home to take care of the body.

With the judicial police, a coroner and the civil guard at the lady’s house, the woman started showing vital signs. Surprised, those present injected her with adrenaline to recover her constants and rushed her to the hospital.

Currently the woman is hospitalized in Santa Ana de Motril hospital, where she is admitted to the intensive care unit and according to them she will recover.

A similar case

In December, something similar happened in Brazil with a man named Jose Ribeiro da Silvabut the end is bleak: they wrongly certified his deaththey put him in a cold room and there he died of hypothermia.

Ribeiro da Silva had been hospitalized in the Central-North State Hospital of Goiano (HCN), in the city of Uruaçu, due to tongue cancer.

It was then that doctor Lucas Campos certified her dead on Nov. 29 from an infection resulting from her illness, according to local newspaper O globo.

After the family reports the fatal mistake, the police investigate the case as a homicide.

It happens that after leaving him for dead, he was placed in a body bag and taken to a cold room to prevent the decomposition of the “corpse” (which was not such) before burial.

Shocked, the family received the news of the death and went to the hospital to authorize the transfer of the body to the city of Rialma, where it was to be buried. never imagined he was alive.

The man was transferred to the funeral home in Rialma, the family’s hometown, about 100 kilometers from Uruaçu.

And the surprise was chilling when the specialists took him out of the bag to prepare the body for wake and burial. and found he was alive.

So it was that they were stunned to realize that he was with his eyes open and breathing hard.

The technicians called the Mobile Emergency Department, which verified that he was alive and took him to the Rialma hospital in very serious and unstabilized conditions.

He finally died on December 1 of hypothermia, according to Police Chief Peterson Amin and local media reports.

Dollar: January closes with a 10% rise, one of the largest since the establishment of Massa

0
Dollar: January closes with a 10% rise, one of the largest since the establishment of Massa

After lagging behind last year, parallel dollars picked up speed in January with increases of up to 10%. The increase is almost double the expected inflation for the first month of 2023, as advisors place close to 6% and higher than the December figure. It also represents the third raise since the hiring of Sergio Massa.

In July, after the resignation of Martín Guzmán and his replacement by Silvina Batakis, andinformal increased by 14%. Then, since the landing in Massa, it rose by 2.6% in August. In September and October it continued to slow, with increases of 0.68 and 0.69%. In November it jumped 8.2%, in December it was up 10.19% and in January rose 10.11%.

The flight of blue towards other prices has imposed a series of measures to contain them. This included debt repurchases at the cost of $320 million of reserves since January 18as far as he could find out clarion. But the impact was limited: in January the gap with the wholesaler rose to 103.7%, almost 14 points more than in December.

After surging strongly last week and hitting a nominal record high of $386, the blue dollar closed Tuesday at $381. MEP rebounded $1 to hit $354, while cash with liquidity (CCL) is dropped $2 to $367. Thus, financial dollars piled up 6.2% and 8.2% gains in January.

“What happened in January is because the dollar is up 20 points less than inflation in 2022, the printing of banknotes in December it began to take effect and the outlook with drought and a slowing world is not good. Due to a certain relative lag, more pesos and the expectation of a smaller abundance of dollars, exchange rates reacted,” economist Jorge Neyro explained.

One of the factors that influenced the takeoff of blue compared to other prices was the launch of a dollar for non-resident tourists similar to the MEP for consumption on cards. With that measure, Travel and ticket gross receipts increased 78% in December to $108 million, according to official data.

“Card transactions have ceased to be carried out by the informal market and have passed through the official market at the value of the MEP. That’s about $5 million a day which in December disappeared from the blue offer. This doesn’t change anything for the MEP, but yes for the blue, it’s a supply gap,” said Emiliano Anselmi, PPI economist.

After a November-December summer, foreign exchange pressures intensified due to foreign exchange shortages amid lower agricultural sales due to a soybean dollar demise and drought. Thus, the central bank has accentuated the sales and in January has accumulated a negative balance of US$190 milliona boot registered only 3 times in the last 20 years.

Due to the lack of rain, Sergio Massa convened the Liaison Table on Tuesday. Economists estimate that the climate phenomenon it will reduce exports by at least $7 billion. The government tries to make up for the dollar loss with funding from Brazil and some kind of relief from the IMF, but it’s also worried about inflation.

A widening exchange rate gap could put further pressure on prices. With an official dollar at $187, financial dollars ended January with an 89-96% gap. Given restrictions on access to foreign currency, this has resulted in some goods being imported at an exchange rate of up to $270.

“The impact on inflation is widespread, there is not as strong a correlation. It is possible that the impact will be greater in February because it is fed back, the best one can hope for is that exchange rates will rise around inflation “, Neiro said. “The gap takes you this month in inflation expectations and may accelerate price hikes for coverage,” Anselmi assured.

The elections and the rollover of the peso debt also generate uncertainty about the dollar. “One is what happens in politics when the candidates start to be defined or the results are known. The other is the weights of the local debt market, there the government has a major challenge so that they are not dollarized,” said Alejandro Giacoia, from Ecoviews.

How is the plan that Independiente has launched to convince Kun Agüero of his return to the red

How is the plan that Independiente has launched to convince Kun Agüero of his return to the red

“I’ll be fit physically to see if I can stay here for six months. Let’s wait. There are several clubs that want me, I also have Independiente. If I’m fit physically, I would play for Red, of course. At least one farewell match on the pitch ‘Independiente. We’ll make it’. Sergio Aguero, somewhat jokingly and quite seriously, he released those words almost in passing in a stream of ‘Yellow Night’, the party in Barcelona in Ecuador at which he was the guest of honor. And in Avellaneda his voice sounded like the most wonderful music to the ears of leaders and fans, who immediately ignited the illusion of seeing Kun dressed as the Devil again.

It has been 15 months since the star who came out of the red youth academy, then ran for the Argentine national team, Atlético Madrid and Manchester City, officially set foot on a football field for the last time. It was that fateful October 30, 2021 when, stuffed with Barcelona of Spain clothes, he grabbed his chest and threw himself on the ground with a face of shocking fright.

In December of that year, after a battery of cardiological studies, Agüero has announced his retirement in the midst of an anguish that has invaded all football fans in Argentina and throughout the world. The former striker has plunged into the world of virtual games (he has formed his own brand) and streaming and thus spends his days away from the ball, which he has been a faithful friend of him for most of his life.

But Kun still has the footballer bug inside him. His farewell was so abrupt for health reasons (he was forced to leave his professional activity due to an arrhythmia) that his plans for the future were cut short. On the horizon he saw a return to Independiente to end his career and, of course, a dutiful farewell on the pitch.

Well, calmer now, that idea resurfaced and started spinning in his head. What he said in conversation with comedian Jero Freixas, a self-confessed fan of Red, was not accidental. clarion might find out Contacts between him and the Avellaneda club began a few days ago to reactivate the bond and try to bring the Kun closer to the institute.

Can the fans hope to see Agüero play at least one semester at Independiente? That door is not quite closed, but almost. And not because the management commanded by Fabián Doman or the former player himself don’t want to do it. But because that is exclusively subject to being able to receive authorization from the team of cardiologists and specialists who supervise it. And today it seems unlikely that the doctors can give him permission to return to racing at such a demanding level.

For the moment it is quite unlikely, even if at the same time no one dares to rule it out definitively. What everyone sees as something to do is a farewell party so that he can spend his special night with his friends and football fans.

“I heard what he said and from here we are at his disposal for whatever he wants. I can’t say if he will play again because that would generate high hopes. But whether it’s for that or a farewell match, Kun has the gates of the club are open,” Doman assured this newspaper.

The Rossoneri president has instructed a very trusted relative of the board of directors to deal personally with following and nurturing the bond with Agüero, which had cooled down in recent years. The intention of the leadership is for Kun to feel part of Independiente from the position he desires. What will come of it will be seen.

For now, Operation Kun Agüero has been launched in Avellaneda. Everyone expects him to be successful to see him once again on the pitch in the shirt he loves the most.

Dani Alves’ defense denies the woman who denounced him and asks for her provisional release: what does she offer in return?

The defense of the former Brazilian footballer Barcelona, Daniele Alves explained before the Court of Barcelona that the videos of the nightclub “radically deny” the victim’s version because they do not show her in a climate of “terror, fear or domination”, and argues that her story could be a “narrative distortion”.

In the appeal he presented at the hearing to ask for its abandonment provisional releaseto which EFE has had access, Alves offers to hand over his passport, wear a telematic bracelet to stay away from the victim, pay the necessary bail and appear, even daily, in court.

The appeal, drawn up by the lawyer Christopher Martelargues that there is no flight risk on which the judge relied to send him to jail without bail on January 20, taking into account that Alves voluntarily come to testify before the Mossos and no longer has the “economic muscle of the periodic income” that the instructor attributed to it.

In that sense, remember that he has been fired since puma Mexican in which he played and that, following his rape accusation, several sponsorship, advertising and image contracts that he had signed with different brands were terminated.

A “playful and festive” atmosphere.

Martell discusses in his appeal the indications that led the judge to send Alves to prison, mainly using the videos of the images preceding the moment in which the young woman and Alves entered the private bathroom of a private room of the disco suttonwhere he allegedly raped her, the night of last December 30th.

According to the letter, the videos show that before that moment Alves and the victim, who had gone to the disco with a cousin and a friend, were having a “playful and festive conversation, surrounded by many people in an open space”, that the “far ” from the “environmental intimidation” scenario.

Subsequently, adds the lawyer, the registration denies that the player has closed the door to Inter bath in which the alleged rape took place: first he enters the club and, two minutes later, the young woman does so, “without Dani Alves letting him pass”.

For Alves’ defense, this is the moment “preceding the sexual encounter in the tiny cubicle or bathroom” that the complainant expresses “experienced in an atmosphere of dread, dread or microcosm of domination, scenario that the images deny in the most radical way”.

Martell believes the victim’s story should be questioned when they look the images as a wholewhich show “a VIP area which, far from being a closed and watertight area, is open and in view of the large room and frequented by a very large group of people who move around and interact closely”.

Accordingly, the defense argues, the images “come into conflict and contradiction” with the complainant’s version and suggest that her account “of what transpired in the couple’s solitude in the bathroom den could also be adorned with identical elements of narrative distortion”.

Alves, at the “antipodes of flight”

In his appeal, Alves’ defense assures that the former Brazilian international he volunteered to testify before the Mossos d’Esquadra when he already knew that a complaint for a sexual offense weighed against him and it had been published that he was about to be arrested: “It is clear that going to appeal is the opposite of escaping”.

Furthermore, he claims that, after attending his mother-in-law’s funeral in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Alves was able to go to Mexico -where he had to return because he was a member of the Pumas-, although chose to fly to Barcelona on January 17 to go “voluntarily” to the January 20 appointment with the Mossos d’Esquadra in the office of his lawyer at the time, after which he was arrested.

The defense also claims that Alves lives with his wife in Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona) and that he personal, family, social and entrepreneurial roots in the Catalan capital, which he understands distorts his risk of flight.

Unlike the instructor, the resource points out that the fact that Alves has the Spanish and Brazilian dual nationality it cannot be an element that prevents your probation.

He also replied to the instructor, who by the way saw flight risk due to the footballer’s economic capacity -he explained that he received between 30,000 and 50,000 euros a month-, and explained that Alves was fired by the Pumas and lost several advertising contracts after being incarcerated, although he acknowledges that during the his long career has amassed savings and assets.

Likewise, the appeal asks the judge to also justify the pre-trial detention to prevent Alves from reacting violently towards the victim, since “this prognosis cannot be affirmed without any element suggesting his consent, however slight it may be”.
