“We will kill people” by quickly ending the state of emergency, says Dr Boileau

Ending the state of health emergency overnight in Quebec would be tantamount to “killing people”, warns the acting national director of public health, Dr. Luc Boileau.

He testified on Wednesday to a parliamentary committee in favor of Bill 28 extending some unique government powers until December 31, 2022.

According to Dr. Boileau, the government needs these transitional powers to keep the health care system afloat; in particular, they will make it possible to continue to call in temporary workers.

In an exchange with independent member associated with Quebec’s Conservative Party, Claire Samson, the public health expert said we need to be realistic.

If we stop all that now, we will take a huge risk and we will kill people. You still need to be realistic.

A quote from Dr. Luc Boileau

Ms. just said. Samson that, in his opinion, the government does not need the bill to deal with a new wave.

What prevents him from preparing? I can’t see what’s stopping ithis hammer.

Abused Boileau, Dubé called to order

Liberal health critic Monsef Derraji asked Dr. Boileau how he can say that COVID-19 resembles a cold and at the same time called for the extension of extraordinary powers.

This question also jumped on the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, who was present at the exchange. He tried several times to harass the two men, but he was sternly summoned by the president of the health and social services commission, the caquiste Luc Provençal.

Minister, I have to ask you to be quietlaunched Mr. Provençal.

At any time, in a parliamentary committee, a minister has the right to interrupt a member of the opposition when the latter is in the process of discussing or exchanging with the people present.

Minister, did you understand my message correctly? continued Mr. Provençal, who was forced to suspend the session to calm things down.

Just facing Mr. Derraji to Dr. Boileau in a recent statement by Prime Minister François Legault that COVID-19 is only the lattera cold, approx.

Quebec is one of the places in the world where its population is the most vaccinated. It helps, I got it last week, even if you catch it, it gives you a cold, pretty muchsaid Mr. Legault on Monday.

Luc Boileau called this statement the Prime Minister true and of responsible. COVID-19 is now like a cold for most Quebecers thanks to vaccination, he said.

If it’s cold, you just confirmed to me, why so many extraordinary steps? Mr. chained. Derraji. Unbelievable! exclaimed Mr. Dubé, which provoked President Provençal’s disapproval.

Why Quebec and not the others?

That is not the end of the heavy questions from the opposition. The parliamentary leader of the Parti Québécois, Joël Arseneau, wants to know why Quebec is only one of those maintaining a health emergency.

What makes Quebec different from other jurisdictions for requiring the maintenance of certain laws and regulations, while elsewhere, it seems we can live with the virus without these instruments? he asked Dr. Boileau.

I haven’t, honestly, gone through another jurisdiction. I look at what we need in our own context including […] characteristics of our health systemexpert answer.

For his part, the health spokesman for Québec solidaire, Vincent Marissal, on Wednesday denounced the mix of genres which allowed the national director of public health to act as the proponent of the bill.

I was a bit uncomfortable he said. Usually here, we hear a witness. There, you act as the proponent of the bill. Special consultations on Bill 28 will continue on Thursday.
