“I came from Corrientes, to see Gagoneta, because nothing stopped him”: the story of Antonio, the boy who waited eleven years to fulfill his dream and is now all the rage in Racing

Antonio met Cylinder and became all the rage among La Academia fans.

Seven hundred and ninety -five kilometers separate Antonio from President Perón’s stadium. It took 11 years to fulfill one of the greatest wishes of his life: to see the field of Racing. Go to the tribune. Surround yourself with people with similar passions, sing your favorite songs and watch your team. And he kept it: “I came from Corriente to see La Gagoneta as if nothing was stopping him“, the child slipped on a television camera. And his cry was patented to fans of the academy.

From within Corrientes, from a town called Santa Lucía, Antonio traveled for the first time in his life to see the club of his loved ones: Karera. It was an afternoon dream. Fernando Gago’s team advanced to a 4-1 win over Sarmiento de Junín. He saw the goals, Lisandro López, he learned the songs, he was with his parents and his younger brother on the stands and something unexpected happened to him that gave a resounding turn of his life: became famous he in the academic world.

It all started before the game, around the stadium, when Antonio waited to enter the field until the program cameras approached. Step by step. While the TyC Sports team is making other reports looking for color outside the stadium, in his freshness the young from the stream has stole all the fame. “I started talking to myself. no one came near meI approached them and thanks to my mother who told me to say that I am from Corrientes and that I came just to go to the field. There I thought to say the small part that everyone uses today. It’s all caused by a 3 second video, that’s the amazing thing“, declared the fanatical boy of Academy.

Talked to Antony Clarion While preparing for the trip he will make this Friday to the province of Buenos Aires, this time, to attend Racing training and get to know the players.

-How did you become a fan of Racing?

-Almost the whole family on my father’s side is from Racing. My grandfather, my father, my uncle, my aunt, my grandparents and from there we all talked about being fans. So I started to be and everyone told me “doHow will you be Racing? You will never be happy in your life“and I ignored them, I told them to shut up, I didn’t care.

-Your whole life Racing is a love from afar …

Yes, it is always a distant love. My grandfather always told me that he was watching the news in the newspaper and what was going on at the club, that it took him a while to see when Racing won and how he was doing. And now … see how easy it is for us to watch games.

-How did you have the opportunity to go to the stadium for the first time?

-I say to my father: “Da, come on, let’s go”, and he tells me to stop, that one day we will have to travel. And now it’s a miracle for me. From not going twice a month, that’s a lot.

-Did you like Avellaneda?

Yes. Let me I want to live there to study something sports-related, I don’t know what yet but I want to be there. I liked it but it was very different in Corrientes, more than anything in traffic, on the streets and obviously in the field.

-And because you saw Racing, you also saw Independiente stadium …

Yes, and it was horrible. I don’t even want to see him.

-What are your plans for the weekend?

-On Thursday night we will go to Buenos Aires by bus and on Friday morning we will go to Racing training. We stayed there and on Sunday we went to the field to watch Newell’s match.

-How did you interact with Racing?

-Mom was contacted. I do not know. Everyone knows except me. He told my group at school not to speak in case it didn’t happen. The Corrientes subsidiary was the first to contact and said there were probabilities, almost all of which were discussed. But we will go our own way. We decided to travel by bus because it takes less time than car. We do everything on our part and then, when we’re there, Racing invites us into training.

-Have you seen players talking to you on TV and saying they were waiting for you on Friday?

-Yes, and I couldn’t believe it when Carlos Alcaraz, Enzo Copetti and Aníbal Moreno mentioned me in the interview and said they were waiting for me at a training session that they would give me a shirt or something. I couldn’t believe it, it was a dream and a destiny.

-The matches how and where do you see them?

-From my house. I see them all and I miss nothing. If I’m somewhere else, I’ll look it up on my phone to see how it’s going. In the game against Independiente I was in a karting car race and I didn’t want to leave, so I often watched the game on my cell phone. When Copetti scored a goal I shouted too much and they silenced me because they were all quiet … No matter what happens, I always follow Racing wherever it is.

Do you have a cabal?

-Always uniform shirt and flag hanging.

-How many things do you have from Racing?

-I have a school folder, dividers, a flag, a tie, three t-shirts, a hat and a scarf. But here you don’t get anywhere, we buy everything from Racing online because they don’t sell here. For my birthday I did everything from Racing and only my grandmother went to Buenos Aires a month before and she had already brought me the candle from there because there is no such thing here.

-Which is your favorite Racing player?

-Diego Milito and Licha. But now everyone is playing well. The team is united and everyone is playing well. The race is one of the best teams.

-And the song you like best?

I spend it singing “And give joy to my heart… ”And now even my mom, who isn’t a Racing fan like us, sings it too. I like it too “guys …“, and the song that says”when he went downstairs we made him a funeral“, by Independent.

-Perhaps in all of this now a friend or family member who is not from Racing, has become a fan for you …

-My cousin is a fan of Boca and we in 2019 when Racing became champion we went out in a caravan and he recorded a video where he pretended that he didn’t see anyone in Racing, but a lot of people. We made two blocks of caravan celebrating in town. That day the whole family watched the game in my parents ’room and when Tigre tied we were very nervous, but in tying Defense and Justice we won and left the caravan.

At the same time, Antonio’s mother, Aisha Alonso, commented on how they are doing to maintain this famous time that the 11-year-old has and how they found out. “On Wednesday of last week we found out in a newspaper here that it went viral, because he doesn’t have social networks. And now they’ve found me so they tag me and I see everything they share.

-How often can they travel to Buenos Aires?

-The day we arrived, Antonio said we needed to plan that we were going to another game. He was eager to go back and attend the Copa Sudamericana, but we told him he had to wait because we can’t travel very often to Buenos Aires.

-How did you experience your first time inside a stadium and live in Buenos Aires in a few days?

-The day we went to court was quite an occasion for us because we shifted to go to the eye doctor so we had that date of yes or yes to go to Buenos Aires. My cousin, who had come to study in Buenos Aires to be close to the stadium, told me that I had to take it with a yes or no against Sarmiento because Licha was going there. So we hope it happens throughout that day. We took the subway, boarded the train, we made all the previous moves to get there. When we left the hotel, with shirts and Racing gear, a man told us he couldn’t go to the field and talked to us as if we would know each other forever. People passed by and shouted “Vamos Racing!” it’s like we know each other. I can not believe. They all seem intimate. This is something very crazy and very beautiful. Whenever a Racing fan sees an accompanying shirt, they already think they are close because they greet, shake hands..

-How did you feel?

For those who live there it is something normal, but for us it is something historic. I saw the families and we, that Antonio went with his father, his younger brother, make a whole plan to get the ticket and for everyone, it was an unforgettable experience. Hopefully we do it more often because it’s memories of life, relics. Seeing grandparents with their grandchildren, parents with their children, is something incredible. We appreciate everything, from going to food before the pitch until after, seeing all the people in club attire, it’s a whole world of light blue and white.
