José Néstor Pekerman’s departure from the Venezuelan national team came as a surprise and caused a stir. Basically, because he took office on November 30, 2021 with a goal that went far beyond qualifying for the 2026 World Cup; In addition, the work plan included meticulous deployment in the training departments, a specialty of the father of Argentina’s golden generation.

However, after five wins, one draw and four losses, his separation from Vinotinto was announced. And in the midst of versions that indicated the default of the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) with respect to previously agreed situations, Fernando Batista took over, arriving with the 73-year-old coach at the helm of the Sub 20.

This Tuesday, all rumors were banned with the statement released by the FVF itself underlining the “reputability” of Pekerman and his entire team, including his representative Pascual Lezcano.

“The FVF announces that the contractual relationship signed with Mr. José Néstor Pekerman and his work team has ended amicably, thus confirming the professionalism and commitment signed between the parties with Venezuelan football,” the letter indicates.

And he continues: “It should be noted that in the course of the talks that took place at the end of this contractual relationship, both parties managed to resolve any previous differences and opened, through a frank dialogue, the way towards this agreement, based on mutual respect, thus putting an end to any further speculation”.

The declaration also underlines that “both sides recognize the honor and the effort made in the last year to try to harmonize the working methods and expectations of each in the development of the common project for the transformation of Venezuelan football”.

Pascual Lezcano, Pekerman's representative, had been questioned. The FVF left appreciated their commitment.

Pascual Lezcano, Pekerman’s representative, had been questioned. The FVF left appreciated their commitment.

And it concludes with the following paragraph: “The FVF appreciates the trajectory and work done by José Néstor Pekerman, and considers his time with our national team an honor.”

The press release that the FVF released contrasts with the one that made the expert coach uncomfortable. On March 10, when he communicated the departure of the Argentine coaching staff, he had assured: “For the FVF it is essential that all those who make up our working group share the highest standards of commitment and dedication”.

For the manager, with an impeccable career from his early days in the youth academy of Argentinos Juniors to his stints in the Argentina and Colombian national teams, this paragraph had been no less of a problem. Nor, that he wrote it to Lezcano, his agent. The honor of both was manifested in this last statement. And finally everything was clarified. José will then continue his journey in another project.
