The Montreal Canadiens announced Wednesday that Martin St-Louis has officially become the team’s 32nd head coach, with a three-year contract. He was appointed on an interim basis in February, following the dismissal of Dominique Ducharme.
The decision was a vote of confidence on the former right-winger, now 46.
Under his leadership, the Montreal team maintained a record of 14 wins, 19 losses and 4 losses in overtime or in a shootout.
Martin has undeniable leadership qualities, in addition to being a great communicator and a hockey enthusiast.said general manager Kent Hughes in a press release.
He has a wealth of experience and a very deep understanding of our sport, he added. His arrival at the helm of the team has given new energy to our group and we are excited that he will continue to guide our team in the years to come.
This Hall of Fame member has had a brilliant career as a player.
Lavallois scored 391 goals and 642 assists in 1,134 games with the Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers.
He scored 90 points, including 42 goals, in 107 playoff games and won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2004.
Martin St-Louis will speak about his new appointment via videoconference on Wednesday morning.
