The brand new Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal has climbed a position in the ATP world rankings and is present this Monday in 4th place in the ranking published on Monday, after the Parisian Grand Slam. He was not the only one to climb: the Norwegian Casper Ruud, who went from eighth to sixth place reaching his best all-time score.

Serbian Novak Djokovic, defeated in the quarter-finals by Nadal, remains number 1 in the world, but his advantage is reduced compared to his rivals, number 2 Daniil Medvedev, eliminated in the round of 16 by Marin Cilic, and number 3 Alexander Zverev , who said goodbye in the semifinals against Nadal after suffering an injury that will keep him away from the circuit for several months.

And the best is yet to come. The fact that Wimbledon will not distribute points will cause a sort of statistical cataclysm in the top 3. The Serbian, defending champion, will be the main loser by decision of the organizations that group the players who have taken this measure after the organizers of the British Grand Slam decided to exclude Russian and Belarusian tennis players from competitions.

The current number one would drop to third after his elimination in the quarter-finals in Paris, while the semi-finals pushed Zverev to number two, no matter how long he is sidelined through injury.

Medvedev, also not advanced from the quarter-finals in the French capital, will be world number one from next week at least until 11 July.

Thanks to his 14th title in Paris, Nadal overtook the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, finalist last year at Roland Garros, but eliminated this 2022 in the round of 16 by the young Danish Holger Rune (he climbed twelve places to finish 28th). In addition, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz fell from sixth to seventh step.

Also noteworthy is the return to the Top 20 of the Croatian Marin Cilic (17th) after the excellent race in Paris, where he lost in the semifinals to Casper Ruud. He was two steps below Diego Schwartzman, who regained a spot and appears 15th after losing in the round of 16 to Djokovic.

The rest of the Argentines in the Top 100? Sebastián Báez remains in 36th place, Francisco Cerúndolo climbs to 44th (+1), Federico Coria drops to 65th (-11), Federico Delbonis at 73rd (-8) and Tomás Etcheverry at 90th (-2).
