Formula 1 begins to enter its definition phase and, while many focus on the fight for the title they place Max Verstappen to the head and Charles Leclerc as his escort, the news goes through another list: one of the most sanctioned drivers so far this season.
With nine dates still to go, the preview of the Belgian Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, is starting to be felt. There are several drivers who need to score points, but many others do not lose sight of the penalties. And the main animator of this other list is none other than Sebastian Vettel.
In the season of his retirement, the German does not relax with that intensity that has so characterized him throughout his career and this is reflected in the numerous fines he received during the season. In this 2022 the Aston Martin driver was fined 35,900 euros. This figure represents the majority of his team’s debt, which this year was sanctioned with € 41,800.
Despite having faced several episodes, most of these economic sanctions correspond to two episodes in particular: when he retired from the Austrian GP drivers’ meeting and was sanctioned with 25,000 euros; and when after he broke the engine of his car, he went back to the pit in a scooter and received a sentence of 5,000 euros.
Who accompanies Vettel on this “black list”? Spaniard Carlos Sainz, from Ferrari. The Madrid-born has only received one financial penalty so far this season, but so severe which cost him 25,000 euros. The same happened at the Monaco GP and it happened when he blocked Lance Stroll and was called to testify before the commissioners.
And who completes the podium is Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez. The Mexican has suffered three economic sanctions this 2022: for blocking George Russell in Monaco and for two speeding in the pit lane. The same they cost him a cumulative fine of 10,600 euros.
They also say featured in the list Lewis Hamilton, Daniele Ricciardo, Guanyu Zhou Y Charles Leclerc. All of them, with a total pecuniary sanction equal to € 10,000. If we talk about teams, the most affected is Aston Martin. From behind, they appear ferrari (35,000 euros) e Red Bull (20,600 euros).
Superlicense Penalties, the other list
Just as various actions cost them economic fines, pilots must also take into account another list: that of penalty points in Superlicense. The FIA applies penalties in the form of points and when a driver reaches 12 he receives a suspension for a race.
With this system, those who would be closest to suffering an absence in a Grand Prix are the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda and the Thai Aless Albano. Both have 8 penalty points. From behind, the Chinese appear Guanyu Zhou Y Sebastian Vettel, with 7.
Pierre Gasley, Fernando Alonso Y Launch Walk They are also among the most punished, with 6 penalty points. Further back, they appear with 5 Esteban Ocon and Carlos Sainz.
