Emanuel Ginobili from Bahia will officially enter the NBA Hall of Fame this Saturday and will become the first Argentine player to enter that distinct space. The ceremony in which Manu will be incorporated into this select group of basketball players will take place at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame from 7:00 pm and will be visible on DirecTV Sports (channels 610 SD and 1610 HD) and on the Direct TV GO platform.
The decision to induct a player into the Hall of Fame responds to the intention to reward the trajectory of those who have demonstrated great skill and achieved great popularity over the course of their careers in the major basketball leagues on the planet, as well as coaches and referees with a great contribution to the world of this sport.
In order for his name to be considered a candidate for the Hall of Fame, the player must have retired for at least five years before being eligible. In the case of coaches and referees, they too must have been retired for at least five years, although those still active can also be considered. If so, they must have coached or refereed for at least 25 years in programs at the school level or above.
In April, the decision was announced to include Ginóbili, winner with the Argentine team of the gold medal at the Athens 2004 Olympics and the bronze medal in Beijing 2008. The Bahian was chosen first by the North American Committee and then by the Committee of Honor, made up of 24 members including executives, Hall of Fame basketball players, administrative staff and reporters.
