Like every September 28, fans of the millionaire celebrate the River Plate Fans Day in homage to Ángel Labruna, his greatest idol. Since 2003 they have been celebrating the commemorative day of Angelito’s birth: a great reference on the pitch, a successful coach and a fan of the millionaire.
From the official Twitter account, River Plate uploaded a greeting to the hicnhas and especially to their greatest idol for his birthday: Ángel Labruna.
Ángel Labruna: Who is it and why is River Plate celebrating its birthday?
Angelo Labruna he made his debut on 18 June 1939, coming off the bench in the defeat against Estudiantes (1-0). He is the top scorer of Argentine football, with 294 goals, on the podium with Arsenio Erico. In total there are 318 screams.
He is also the player who scored the most goals in Superclasico (he scored 16 goals against Boca). He has won nine local tournaments and seven official cups. Among his records, he is the second player to have worn the River shirt several times, with 515 appearances. He was only surpassed by Amadeo Carrizo, who adds 520 in the millionaire span.
Following his successful playing career, Labruna made history as a manager once again. In 1963, he cut an untitled 18-year streak at Núñez and made the Olympic lap six times, which supports him as the third most championship-winning manager, alongside Marcelo Gallardo.
It is only surpassed by Ramón Ángel Díaz, with 9 (7 local tournaments and 2 International Cups) and by José María Minella, with 8 (6 local tournaments, 1 National Cup and 1 International Cup).
Labruna coached Rosario Central, where he won his first title in 1971. He also directed Racing, Chacarita, Lanús, Platense and Talleres de Córdoba. In 1983 he took over the technical direction of Argentinos Juniors and that was the year he died
