Instagram introduced a new feature at the end of March that points to a new goal for the platform: to make publications more profitable. After this, any user can tag specific products in their postswhether they are influencers with a verified profile or not.

“We now give everyone access to inspire their loved ones by enabling product tagging in posts. From supporting the brands you love to helping your friends and families who discover new products they might like, it’s now easier to share products on Instagram, ”a spokesman for the social network said on Monday.

However, Argentines who use photos, videos and ephemeral app content will have to wait a little longer. So far, this function is limited to Americans only; although it is not ruled out that it will soon extend to other markets.

How product labeling works

Starting this Tuesday, users will have the possibility to tag those products that are available on Instagram Shopping, the addition that takes over the timeless area of the notifications section.

Product tagging extends within Instagram.

Additionally, owners will receive notifications whenever a user tags their products in posts. Of course, they will have the freedom to review all brand name tagged photos with just one button on their profile, and they can control them from their settings.

How to label products

To start making money with these new tags, keep in mind that only the products the user mentions in the photos can be tagged, although you will obviously not receive payment for it.

For this you need to follow a simple procedure:

  • Create a new post on your Instagram account.
  • Enter the Tag people section.
  • Use the search engine to enter the brand name and press when it appears.
  • When done, you should see two options below: People and Products.
  • Tap Products.
  • Select the product in the photo and tag the brand.
  • When you’re ready, just tap Share to post your photo with the brand tag.

So far, Instagram hasn’t clarified the economic return of product labeling, beyond gaining exposure and new audiences that can translate into followers. However, that may change when you finally launch your affiliate program. With it, creators get a share of product sales earned through a shared link.
