WhatsApp prepares a new “audio chat” function: what will they be used for?

The instant messaging app Whatsapp continues to evolve. The Meta-owned company is working on a new “audio chat” feature, which will be a group voice calling service which hopes to become an alternative to platforms like Discord.

According to publish WaBetaInfoa site that specializes in revealing messenger news, WhatsApp will add this “audio chat” function. in existing groups.

This new mode of communication was already visible in one of the preliminary versions of the application. Currently, the app has enabled the ability to make group audio or video callsalbeit with limitations on the number of participants.

While many details about this feature are still unknown, it is hinted that it will bear some resemblance to the Twitter spaces or the rooms of discord. The latter is mainly known for its voice and text chat service, although it is also offers the ability to share files and use bots to automate certain functions.

Additionally, Discord allows users to create custom servers where they can invite other users to chat, share common interests and collaborate on projects.

Unlike WhatsApp, the platform is a favorite among gamers, as it allows you to create voice channels for communicate during online matches; although it is also used by communities on music, art, technology and other topics.

When the feature is available, it will allow all WhatsApp users to join this chat as an active listener or participant.

The new feature should allow hold conversations exclusively Audio without this involving making a call, simply browsing a conversation by listening in real time to other people within the group.

Also, audio chats would also include the voice notices it you only heard one time, as it already happens with photos or videos.

At the moment this new feature is not yet active, and has only been seen in version 2.23.7.12 of the WhatsApp beta for Android.
