Great Britain sent to Ukraine an advanced model of the Brimstone missile laser-guided, with twice the range of the previous design.
According to the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, images have emerged of supplies of Brimstone 2 missiles, delivered by the Royal Air Force to help Ukraine push back the Russian forces.
Ukrainian troops have modified trucks to serve as mobile platforms Launcher to destroy Russian tanks and other vehicles at long range. Missiles are usually launched from the air.
The missiles, along with similar anti-tank weapons sent by Ukraine’s other Western allies, they would have been essential stop the military advance of Moscow in recent months.
a new design
Britain delivered Brimstone missiles to Ukraine for the first time about six months ago. However, a video released last month by the British Forces Broadcasting Service showed the more advanced version being readied for transport to Royal Air Force Brize Norton base in Oxfordshire.
The missiles, that they cost around £175,000 eachThey can strike targets by tracking a laser fired by troops, aircraft or vehicles, or select their target from a pre-programmed list, using ultra-high-frequency millimeter-wave radar, according to the Telegraph.
This system allows the gun scan the battlefield and select the most suitable lens, discount on civilian vehicles or less important military equipment.
In inhabited centres
When guided by a laser fired by friendly troops, Sulfur can be used in built-up areas with great precision. This limits the potential for collateral damage among the civilian population.
The first version of the Brimstone entered RAF service in 2005. It was upgraded in 2008 so that it could be guided by laser. Brimstone 2, the next improved model, entered service in 2016.
With a jet-launched range of approximately 60 kilometers and a 6.3 kg warhead, Brimstone 2 is designed primarily for hitting ground targetsincluding vehicles in movement.
maritime version
However, it has developed a maritime version of the gunspecially designed for attack boats attack as motorboats. It is very similar to the previous variants. But it has to compensate for the radar and laser “leakage” that can occur when operating on water.
Tests were carried out in 2013 Sea spear fired on a simulated attack formation of five targets, one of which was a 15-metre vessel traveling at 20 knots. The success of the test demonstrated the missile’s ability to attack numerous individual targets at seaaccording to the Telegraph.
During a weekend visit to Kiev, Rishi Sunak announced that he would be sent to Ukraine another military aid package of 50 million pounds.
Brimstone was thought not to be part of that package, which instead focused on providing air defense weapons and ammunition to counter the threat of the Iranian-supplied Shahed-136 drones.
