A paramedic gave first aid to a victim in serious condition, not knowing it was his own daughter. It was only hours later that Jayme Erickson discovered the sad coincidence when he received the news of her death.
According to the People website, the incident occurred on November 15 north of Calgary, Canada. He was crossing the lane when he saw the accident and realized that a seriously injured passenger was stuck.
He stood near the car and intervened in the injured until the paramedics arrived at the scene. The paramedic was unaware that the passenger involved was his 17-year-old daughter, Montan.
According to Jayme, the young woman was unrecognizable due to the severity of her injuries.
“Jayme was unknowingly keeping his own daughter alive,” Erickson’s friend and paramedic Richard Reed said at a news conference Wednesday.
He added that the paramedic administered the treatment to buy time for the victim to say goodbye to his family.
When he returned home, he was greeted by Canadian police, who gave him the devastating news of his daughter’s death.
“She was a warrior and fought until the day she died. It was beautiful. When she worked hard for something, she always succeeded,” Erickson said emotionally during the interview.
“We’re overwhelmed and absolutely devastated by grief,” Erickson wrote on a GoFundMe page created by family friend Lindsay Sanlack, “The pain I feel is indescribable, unlike any I’ve ever felt.”
The seriously injured patient I had just dealt with was my flesh and bone. My only daughter. My daughter is Montana. His wounds were so terrible that I didn’t even recognize him. [Depois,] I was taken to see my daughter and was told she didn’t resist. I will treasure the memories we spent together and the time we spent together. I’m broken, I’ve lost a part of me
