Hundreds of demonstrators blocked the runway at the airport in Peru’s second-largest city, Arequipa, with stones, sticks and burning tires to demand the resignation of new president Dina Boluarte and early presidential and legislative elections.
“The airport runway was blocked with rocks, sticks and tires,” said an AFP photographer at the scene.
Runway lighting was destroyed and the airport was closed. The police intervene with tear gas against the demonstrators.
