A 38-year-old man will receive compensation of 62,000 euros (approximately R$340,000) after a medical error that resulted in his penis being amputated.
In 2014, he was being treated for skin cancer in the genital organ at the University Hospital of Nantes, France. The result of a consultation brought a misdiagnosis of advanced carcinoma, a malignant tumor of the penis.
She underwent many unnecessary surgeries for three years and took cocktails of morphine, tramadol, and codeine to relieve her pain.
The Nantes administrative court reviewed the case and concluded on Wednesday (21st) that the hospital had committed “criminal crimes” against the patient.
Although the amount has been set at €62,000, the victim’s defense is seeking approximately €1 million (R$5,490 million) and will appeal the decision.
“I hate this doctor who doesn’t listen to me. He played Russian roulette with me,” the man told the France Bleu Loire Océan website, preferring not to reveal his identity.
The victim’s lawyer, Georges Parastatis, claims that psychological harm was not taken into account.
