A gruesome discovery has shocked Colombian society in the last few hours: the bodies of two young men no more than 20 years old were found in the landing gear of an Avianca plane that had arrived in Bogota, Colombia.
The bodies were found on Saturday 7 by maintenance workers in the midst of a routine check. The plane had arrived from Santiago de Chile, but according to analysts the illegal immigrants had not boarded it.
According to the official investigation file, on January 5, the aircraft was flying between Bogotá, Colombia, and Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil. The next day, January 6, the aircraft returned to Bogotá and took the Bogotá-Santiago de Chile route.
The day the two young men boarded the plane would have been January 3, the day the flight headed for the Dominican Republic.
“The bodies were found around 9:00 pm on 1/6/23 at the time of maintenance, which is to be done every 10 days and was last done on December 27,” the official statement read. It is assumed that the young people at that moment would be stuffed into the landing gear of the Avianca aircraft. This deduction was made for personal effects that were found, including money originating from that country.
According to experts, living conditions during the flight in the landing gear are almost zero: lack of oxygen and average temperatures are 45 degrees below zero.
However, the identities of the two illegal immigrants are awaited; no one is known to be older than 20.
The two people found were carrying, in addition to Dominican coins, light clothing and a blanket. “Dominican coins have been found, and it is possible that the two young dead are from that country. Although Haitian migrants (neighbors of the Dominican Republic) usually bring that currency as well”explained an investigator in testimony given to the newspaper El Tiempo.
