A similar phenomenon was observed at the time of the Korean military solid propellant space launch vehicle.

A bluish whirlpool was observed over the US state of Alaska. After seeing the observation photo, netizens made guesses such as ‘the appearance of a UFO’ and ‘a connection with another dimension’, but it turned out that the vortex was a phenomenon that occurred when a space rocket was launched.

According to the Associated Press on the 15th (local time), a whirlpool with blue light was captured over Alaska around 2:00 am on the same day. The vortex formed a spiraling trajectory across the sky, growing in size before disappearing.

This phenomenon was captured on the camera of a citizen observing the aurora in Alaska and attracted attention as it was shared on social media. Netizens who watched the video poured out all sorts of speculations, such as “The dimensional door to this world has opened”, “Isn’t there a black hole?”, “It looks like a UFO moving”.

However, the vortex turned out to be fuel ejected from a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from a space station in California. At the time, when the Falcon 9 was launched, the upper two-stage rocket spewed out extra fuel, and an analysis came out that the fuel that the rocket itself continuously rotated and discharged also drew a rotating trajectory. In fact, a rocket carrying 25 satellites was launched from the Vandenberg Space Station in California three hours before the observation of the vortex.

Don Hampton, a professor at the University of Alaska, said in an interview with the news agency, “The fuel injected into the high-altitude stratosphere turns into ice grains.” It can also be seen as a bright whirlpool.”

This phenomenon has also been observed in Korea.

On December 30 last year, the South Korean military succeeded in a test flight of a ‘solid-propelled space launch vehicle’ developed with domestic technology. The projectile was launched at the test site of the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) in Taean-gun, South Chungcheong Province. At that time, when the rocket was launched in the evening, a phenomenon that seemed to descend from the night sky was observed. In response to this phenomenon, more than 400 reports of “unidentified flying objects were sighted” from all over the country.
