Without a doubt, two of the most exotic outfits at the 2023 Met Gala were those of the American singer Cat Doja and of the actor Jared Leto. Both opted for the “feline”.

The cat is an animal very much in tune with the Vogue celebration at the MET Museum in New York because this year the gala was held in homage to the designer. Karl Lagerfelda lover of cats, especially his pet Choupette.

The 27-year-old artist dressed – literally – as a cat, so much so that it looked like something out of the comedy and movie Cats. Her spectacular suit with which she conquered the flashes on the red carpet of the event was designed by Oscar de la Renta.

Leto did the same too: the actor dressed directly as Choupette, the famous mascot of the evening’s birthday boy who is a star of the networks.

It is worth clarifying that Leto will play Lagerfeld in a film starring and produced by him about the life of the “kaiser of fashion”.

What is the dress code this year?

Like every edition, the Met Gala has a dress code (or dress code). In 2023 it was just “in honor of Charles”.

Karl Lagerfeld, despite no longer being physically present with us (he died in 2019), was the protagonist of the celebration. The event revolved around his work and his legacy under the name “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. There was in fact an exhibition that presented dozens of unpublished clothes and sketches of hers.

The German couturier stood out in the second half of the 20th century for his work for renowned fashion houses, such as Balmain, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel and his eponymous brand.

What is the Met Gala?

Quoting the Vogue website, the Met Gala is a charity event advertised as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It is traditionally organized to celebrate the opening of its annual fashion exhibition.

Designed since 1995 by Anna Wintur, editor-in-chief of Vogue, year after year the event collects eight-figure sums. Guests, which usually number around 600, stay in nearby hotels the night before and after.

In addition to being frequented by high-profile celebrities, the Met Gala always welcomes young creatives and new models in the industry.

Information that carries an aura of mystery: what happens at each ceremony after the red carpet is secret. Attendees aren’t allowed to use their phones during the event, so there are never any photos or videos of the celebration itself.

What is known is that a high-profile artist always exhibits there (as Justin Bieber and Rihanna once knew how to do) and that celebrities explore the current exhibition before meeting each other.
