‘Queen of housekeeping’ Martha Stewart, who turned 81 this year, became the oldest swimsuit cover model for a famous sports magazine.
According to CNN on the 15th (local time), Stewart appeared as a model for one of the four covers of the Sports Illustrated (SI) swimsuit special issue issued on the same day. Stewart, who turned 81 this year, is the magazine’s oldest ever model.
Filming took place in the Dominican Republic. She worked hard, wearing 10 different swimsuits and posing for hours. Stewart is said to have taken part in the filming while reflecting on her motto, “When change ends, her life ends.”
In an interview with the NYT, Stuart recalled the time when he was offered a model and said, “I gave myself courage by thinking that I didn’t have to give in to convention. He thought that if he was physically and mentally fit enough, he could do this.”
He added, “Age is not important, but the way people think and act is important.”
Stewart also posted a cover photo on his Twitter along with the words, “I’m really happy to be chosen as the cover model of SI (Sports Illustrated).” He continued, “I hope this cover will inspire you to take on new challenges.”
Martha Stewart rose to fame in 1990 with the publication of Martha Stewart Living, a magazine about her experiences in housekeeping, such as cooking and interior decoration.
Afterwards, she established Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, which encompasses various publishing and internet marketing businesses related to household goods, and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1999, growing into a representative female entrepreneur. However, in 2002 she was charged with securities fraud and misrepresentation, among other charges, and she was sentenced to five months in prison in 2004, which took her downhill.
