The mega-operation of the Brazilian police against an armed commandothat on April 9 there was stormed a city in the Amazon state of Mato Grosso to assault a money transporter, concluded with 18 dead and five arrested.
The security forces deployed troops in a vast territory and it took 38 days to close the operation called “Canguçu” to end the command, with persecutions and shootings and the deployment of 350 agents in the states of Mato Grosso, Pará and Tocantines.
The command attacked a military police stationan armored vehicle and planted explosives in various points of the small town of 30,000 inhabitants, which has an economy mainly linked to the agri-food sector.
The criminal gang, made up of around twenty heavily armed men, arrived in Confresa in armored vehicles from a farm in Pará after Plan for more than a year the coupin which they invested about 2 million reais.
As soon as they entered the city, they attacked the headquarters of the Military Police. After blowing up a vehicle at the entrance to the site, they surrendered all the troops and then set fire to the buildings.
The purpose of the coup was a vault belonging to the Brinks securities company. However, the commando coup failed and the criminals fled to the rural area of Tocantins, where after a few hours dozens of uniformed officers began looking for them.
During the operation, police officers seized about 20 weapons, including machine guns, bulletproof vests, helmets and explosives, confirming the guerrilla tactics implemented by the criminals.
The Secretary of State for Public Security, Colonel César Roveri, underlined that the investigations will continue, given that there are still other people to arrest.
According to official sources from Tocantins, the operation is entering a second phase, where roadblocks and barriers will remain. Intelligence services will act to identify criminals who may have supported the rest of the gang.
Three of the 18 dead were linked to the First Command of the Capital (PCC), Brazil’s most feared and powerful criminal organization.
