Light year VI
Lightyear came out in theaters days ago and on the networks, especially Twitter, many of its genius scenes have already been discussed. The new Disney Pixar movie comes from the studio’s subcategory that might be called “Grownups” which is why many of the existential dilemmas he poses, and even his jokes, aim to open debates in adult audiences …
A birthday table, a Christmas gathering, or a good daytime party could be the perfect setting to discuss whether eating sandwiches like they do in Lightyear is better or worse than eating them like most humans do these days.
Before delving into this dilemma posed by the film, it is necessary to warn it from here on there may be the weird little spoiler not very relevant (nothing relative at the end, of course).
Sox, one of the best characters in the film?
A sandwich … controversial
The story of Lightyear, we remember, is that of Buzz, the astronaut from whom the toy that appears in Toy Story derives. The movie, as indicated in some subtitles at the beginning, is what makes Andy a fan and from which they draw inspiration to create the famous doll.
Lightyear explores time travel, the interruptions between past, present and future. His premise is that of a man who becomes obsessed with an impossible mission: to save his people from a planet far, far away.
Buzz and his gang.
At one point in the plot, Buzz attempts to test his ship’s supersonic speed multiple times, leading him through galactic situations that last minutes for him but years for the rest of his friends.
That is why, every time the astronaut lands on solid ground, he finds that his loved ones are much older than him, who is always the same age as him.
The whole introduction was just to get us into the sandwich scene..
Decades – or, perhaps, more than a century – after the present the story begins, Buzz and his friends take a moment to relax after experiencing one of their hectic adventures.
everyone is in the future. One of the characters finds a vending machine and takes out some packets: they are sandwiches. Throughout the scene you can see how everyone who grew up while Buzz was doing missions eat the weird sandwich like it’s nothing and Lightyear asks them questions about curious food.
Buzz Lightyear doesn’t understand anything when they tell him about the sandwich of the future.
The fact is, the sandwich is not the typical sandwich that we all know. It’s an upside-down bun. That is, instead of bread, meat, bread is meat, bread, meat. Comes in a casing, looks cheap, and, characters tell Lightyear, has several strengths.
The main ones are taste and eat less bread. The second one, the pleasure of getting your fingers dirty keeping the sandwich from the meat. Buzz’s friends imply that devotion to this food is an acquired taste.
The joke, then, makes us think: Could these be the sandwiches of the future?
The question was asked by many Internet users who also referred to the subject as the protagonists of the film. Let’s see what is said on the net about this curious joke idea.
Ugly or elixir?
In a note with The Wrap, Chris Evans and Keke Palmerthe actors voicing Buzz and Izzy, respectively, fantasize about having a Lightyear attraction at Disney parks and selling the steak sandwich there.
“I’d love to take a tour, but I’d also like to have a deli next door serving steak sandwiches,” Keke told The Wrap. In that medium they claimed that when they mentioned the proposal to Evans, the actor won it.
