According to O Liberal, the couple forced her housekeeper to sleep in the basement of their home, didn’t pay her, threw hot water in her face, and locked the refrigerator so she couldn’t eat. They had a 19th century style slave in their hands.

At the trial, René denied having enslaved the employee and claimed that he regarded her as one of the family.
