On 11 July, the Metropolitan Police of Valle de Aburrá, in Bello, Colombia, seized one and a half tons of marijuana. The operation was a total success and, without wasting time, the local authorities decided to incinerate the drug. But not everything went as planned. When they tried to incinerate the 1,678 pounds, local residents ended up on drugs.

At the top of the sector, where the Pedro Nel Ospina battalion is located, the authorities took place what they thought was a controlled burn, not to mention that the smoke would reach the surrounding communities causing discomfort.

Through social networks, the residents of the sector they complained about the smoke, which at first they mistook for a firebut the office of the Mayor of Bello has made it clear that it is the fire of marijuana by the police, the army, the fire brigade and the prosecutor’s office.

Something that was then corroborated by the smell of the drug that reached several houses in the sector and even forced some neighbors to seek treatment by local doctors.

“There was a very horrible smoke coming out of the battalion and a tremendous smell of marijuana that made everyone shiver,” said Edilberto Castaño, a local who works as a bricklayer in Bello.

Another resident said he began to hearr “very dazed all afternoon, It was up to someone to continue working, but very stunned, someone who is not used to these things as they say, the passive is the one who suffers the most ”.

“It shouldn’t be done around here. How would it affect all those people in the neighboring neighborhoods?” Castaño stressed.

The drug had been seized in the El Mirador area and police forces also showed it at a press conference. What began as a victory against drug trafficking has finally taken off thanks to the ineptitude of the authorities who failed to dispose of the marijuana and almost poisoned an entire neighborhood.
