Camilo Guevara, one of the sons of the Argentine-Cuban revolutionary leader Ernesto “Che” Guevara, died of a stroke during a trip to VenezuelaThe Cuban government reported on Tuesday.

Born on May 20, 1962Camilo has focused his life on trying to preserve his father’s legacy. He was the director of the Che Center, a Havana-based institution, which keeps the personal archives of the leader of the Cuban Revolution and tries to ensure that his words and his actions are remembered around the world.

Camilo Guevara was critical of the “excessive and disproportionate” marketing. of his father’s image, as he believed that this diluted the history and ideology of the Argentine guerrilla.

“In my opinion they try to make ‘Che’, the story of ‘Che’ disappear, they leave the image blank and want to separate it from the story of ‘Che’. Guevara was particularly critical of the over-exploitation of his father’s image, when in reality few people know about his life.

“People have it on their shirts and think you are a rocker or what do I know. But he doesn’t know who he really is. Eventually the name is known. He can also tell you two or three things that supposedly make him a ‘Che’ specialist, “she explained.

He had an affair with Suylén Milanés, recently deceased and daughter of the Cuban singer Pablo Milanés and with whom he had a daughter, Camila.

Which was father of five daughters and sons: Aleida, Camilo, Hilda, Celia and Ernesto.

The Santa Fe-born revolutionary Rosario was a guerrilla theorist and tactician, a prominent figure in the Cuban revolution, and a guerrilla leader in South America. He was executed by the Bolivian army in 1967.
